Residency Program Rotations
6 weeks - Operations
Hospital is the first rotation for each resident. Its purpose is to orient the resident to the inpatient pharmacy and learn the requirements of an inpatient dispensing pharmacy. The duration of this training period is six weeks.
1 month - General Medicine
General Medicine (GM) is a required, four week rotation and one of the first direct patient care rotations in the residency year. Residents will be expected to become integral members of the health care team working closely with the pharmacist preceptors, physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and social workers as well as staff nurses and other ancillary professionals. The rotation will primarily consist of interdisciplinary rounding with the hospitalist providers. Residents will focus their attention to the inpatient medical-surgical areas but will also gain exposure to patients in all areas of the hospital, excluding obstetrics and neonatal intensive care.
1 month - Intensive Care
Critical Care Medicine is a required four week rotation at Blanchard Valley and must be preceded by at least one internal medicine rotation. The resident will work under direct supervision of one of BVH’s pharmacists and intensivist.
3 months - Ambulatory Care
Ambulatory Care is a four week rotation at Blanchard Valley and is one of the first direct patient care rotations of the residency year. Residents will be expected to become a working member of the health care team working closely with the pharmacist preceptor as well as staff.
1 month - Geriatrics
Geriatric Medicine is a required four week rotation at Blanchard Valley and must be preceded by at least one internal medicine rotation. The resident will work under direct supervision of one of BVH’s pharmacists along with appropriate interaction with physicians, nursing, social work and patients as necessary.
1 month - Infectious Disease
Infectious Disease is a required four week rotation at Blanchard Valley and must follow at least one internal medicine rotation. The resident will work under direct supervision of one of BVH’s pharmacists and infectious disease physician. The resident will also interact with nurses, infection control and microbiology teams.
1 month - Pharmacy Administration
Pharmacy administration is a required four week rotation at Blanchard Valley Hospital. This rotation can be completed in any month after the first quarter. The resident will work under direct supervision of the director of pharmacy and the pharmacy leadership team.
